The TEAM Study is a unique transgenerational cohort study co-led by Dr Katherine Bowers and Dr Shelley Ehrlich. The study was founded by Dr. Jane Khoury who was also involved in the parent Diabetes in Pregnancy Program Project (PPG) study which recruited the mothers of the current TEAM Study participants between 1978 and 1995 either pre-pregnancy or  prior to 20 weeks of pregnancy. The blood glucose levels of these moms with pre-existing diabetes were closely monitored throughout pregnancy, once technology was available multiple daily values were recorded. These are now being used to examine the long term health effects of hyper- and hypo-glycemia on the now adult offspring.

A diverse team of researchers, physicians, and support staff from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and other partner institutions has been involved in the current TEAM study. We are all grateful to the dedicated physicians and research scientists who pioneered the PPG. In particular Dr Harvey Knowles, Dr Reginald Tsang and Dr Menachem Miodovnik and of course, the mothers who participated in the PPG.

Cincinnati Children’s is a nonprofit academic medical center established in 1883 and is one of the oldest and most distinguished pediatric hospitals in the United States.
